Wedding

A Bengali wedding, or biye, is a rich tapestry of tradition, culture, and emotion. Known for its grandeur and vibrant rituals, it beautifully blends customs with a touch of romance and celebration.

The festivities typically begin with the ashirbad (blessing ceremony) where elders bless the bride and groom. The pre-wedding rituals include the aiburo bhaat, a ceremonial feast for the bride and groom, symbolizing the end of their bachelorhood. The wedding day is marked by unique traditions like the gaye holud (turmeric ceremony), where family members apply turmeric paste to the couple for a glowing complexion.

The main wedding ceremony begins with the bride entering under a piri (wooden stool) while covering her face with betel leaves, accompanied by the sound of ululation and shankh dhwani (conch shell blowing). The saat paak involves the bride circling the groom seven times before the sacred vows are exchanged under the chadnatola.

A Bengali wedding isn’t just about rituals; it’s about family bonding, sumptuous feasts featuring delicacies like mishti doi and rosogolla, and endless moments of joy. It’s a soulful celebration of love and togetherness.
